💻 #4: Build a wildfire tracker with NASA API 🔥
Coming in hot! Build an interactive wildfire tracker with the NASA API
Happy Friday, developers!
Devan here and welcome to the Weekend Web Dev (WWD) newsletter!
This weekend’s project will have you using a NASA API. This weekend we’ll be using the wildfire API but there’s quite a few free NASA APIs. When you’re done the tutorial, can you think of any other NASA API you could apply to this project?
Tutorial of the week:
Length: 30 mins
Difficulty: Easy
This weekend’s tutorial is by one of my favourite tutorial maker’s Traversy Media. He consistently puts out fantastic content, teaching your web development in a clear and concise way.
In this tutorial we’ll be making a Wildfire tracker. What you’ll learn:
Reactjs
Functional components
Using APIs
Fetch
3 creative projects of the week:
1. Online Library
HTML5, CSS3, Javascript
Great portfolio project idea, you could create a library of books you’ve read or want to read. Check out this nicely made library app by @hsnice16.
2. Sell! Sell! Sell!
Another exciting visualization by @nealagarwal, this time check out what’s being sold by different companies every minute.
I’ll be honest, this one surprised me.
3. Quiz App + React + GSAP
React and GSAP (GSAP is a javascript animation library)
A beautifully animated 10 question quiz to really test your frontend knowledge! Made by @knyttneve
I got 7/10, the questions will really test your knowledge. Tweet at me and tell me what you got!
That’s all folks!
I hope this tutorial gives you what you need to have a new portfolio project finished before the weekend is over!
I also hope these three projects give you inspiration for future tutorial projects or just something cool to play around with for a bit.
Share your tutorial progress with me on twitter! I’d love to see what you’re making.
Your fellow weekend warrior,
Devan
