Hey there, developer! 👋
In this weekend’s project, we’re going to build a real estate application and work with the Chakra UI library and RapidAPI.
React is so powerful because of your ability to create a component once and reuse it throughout your project. What makes these components easy to work with is your ability to pass data into components using “props”. If this is new to you don’t worry this will all make sense as we work on this tutorial together!
Tutorial of the week:
Length: 2 hours
Difficulty: Intermediate
This weekend’s tutorial is by one of my favourite Javascript teachers, JavaScriptMastery. They consistently put out fantastic tutorials, taking you from the basics of folder structure all the way to deployment!
What you’ll learn:
React Best Practices
Next.js best practices, static generation, and server-side rendering
Creating a clean User Interface using ChakraUI
And most importantly fetching data from RapidAPI
3 creative projects of the week:
1. Playable GameBoy
HTML, SCSS, TypeScript
My favourite find of the week was this playable GameBoy, which definitely brought me back to my childhood. This was made by TheAngularGuy, who also made a kick-ass tutorial for how he did this which I recommend you check out.
2. Christmas Pixel Pikachu
HTML, CSS
Nothing like some CSS to get you in the holiday spirit! All I want for christmas is some CSS skills 😄
3. Evergiven Everywhere
HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Remember when all we hear about was that Evergiven boat? ⛴ Well Garret Dash Nelson made it possible to place that ship anywhere you want. Silly but fun to check out! The best part is it’s posted on Glitch, so you’re able to see and play around with the code yourself!
That’s all folks!
I hope you enjoyed this weekend’s edition of Weekend Web Dev!
I also hope these three projects give you inspiration for your future projects, portfolio, or just something cool to play around with for a bit.
Share your tutorial progress with me on Twitter! I’d love to see what you’re building.
