Happy Friday, developer!
Devan here with this weekend’s newsletter!
First off, there’s a lot of new faces here so thank you so much for joining me and please introduce yourself by replying to this email! 👋
I’m really excited about this week’s project so let’s get started!
Slowly but surely the world is getting ready to travel again, and I’m sure you’re itching to get travelling again too. In this weekend’s project you can prepare for your next trip by finding information about all the restaurants, hotels, and attractions in any city you choose! 🏙
Tutorial of the week:
Length: 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Intermediate
This weekend’s tutorial is by one of my favourite Javascript teachers, JavaScriptMastery. They consistently put out fantastic tutorials, taking you from folder structure to deployment!
What you’ll learn:
React best practices
React Hooks, Refs, folder structure 🗂
Using multiple APIs (RapidAPI)
Material UI
Netlify deployment 🚀
This space is reserved for YOU!
Are you building something you want to show off to other highly motivated web developers like yourself?

3 creative projects of the week:
1. A Musical Planet
MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js
In this weekend’s travel spirit, this full-stack app is using the Spotify API to have you guess where in the world a song is from! You play by listening to a sample track of a local band and guessing where in the world they are from! 🌎
Very creative and a great use of a free API! Great work @DylanTelson, you absolutely crushed it with this!
2. CSS Coffee Machine Animation
HTML, CSS
Most developers turn coffee into code, but this time @Krishn_aGupta turned code into coffee! Check out the codepen to see how he just used CSS to make this coffee maker animation!
3. Berman.xyz
Vue.js & SCSS
A personal website is just as important as the projects you share on it. They give you the power to add your personality into that first impression employers get from you.
Personal sites don’t need to be overly complex or flashy, just clearly show off who you are, what you do, and what you have done in the past.
Senior front-end developer, Mike Berman, does a really good job of this with his website, check out the really creative animation sequence he’s set up as you scroll down the page and how it relates to his experiences.
That’s all folks!
I hope you enjoyed this weekend’s edition of Weekend Web Dev!
I also hope these three projects give you inspiration for your future projects, portfolio, or just something cool to play around with for a bit.
Share your tutorial progress with me on twitter! I’d love to see what you’re making.
Your fellow weekend warrior,
Devan
