Happy Friday, developer! 👋
I hope you had a great week! I’m sure by now you’ve heard of Wordle, but if you haven’t it’s a word game where you are given 5 chances to guess a five-letter word. According to the creator Josh Wardle (now you know how Wordle got its name), Wordle is played by 10 million people A DAY!
That’s a lot of traffic for a website with literally no backend code written.
Tutorial of the week:
Length: 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Beginner
This tutorial was posted by Ania Kubów she always delivers fantastic tutorials and a really recommend you check out the rest of her videos.
What you’ll learn this weekend:
React.js 🖼
Firebase 🔥
React Hooks 🪝
React Testing ✅
3 creative projects of the week:
1. Wordle
HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Wordle was created by a former Reddit employee, Josh Wardle, in an attempt to improve his vanilla JavaScript skills. Josh wanted to create a game without using a library like React so he could better understand how things worked under the hood. He made this game for his partner because she loves word games.
I really recommend you check out his story on the Syntax podcast.
2. matching.name
Have trouble finding a name for your project or portfolio? Unsure if your name is already being used? Check out this project to search for domain names that go beyond the conventional .com
3. failscout.co
next.js, mongoDB and node.js
It feels to me that companies I used to trust are cutting corners to decrease costs and products that once held the test of time have lost their quality. This project tries to counter that by having consumers crowdsource their broken products and detail how they break and review the quality. It’s another example of how web development skills can leverage better products.
Great work Adrian Krebs! I really love this project
That’s all folks!
I hope you enjoyed this weekend’s edition of Weekend Web Dev!
I also hope these three projects give you inspiration for your future projects, portfolio, or just something cool to play around with for a bit.
Share your tutorial progress with me on Twitter! I’d love to see what you’re building.
