💻 #13 Build a Portfolio with React and Tailwind CSS 🪧
Build and deploy on Netlify your own professional portfolio site
Happy new year, developer! 👋
To kick off this new year we’re going to set ourselves up with a place to showcase all our personal projects. This weekend’s tutorial will have you building and deploying your own portfolio site!
The most important part about building web development projects is having a place to show them off. It’s also a great way to show employers what you’re capable of 💪
If you already have a portfolio site I’d love it if you shared your site with me on Twitter!
Tutorial of the week:
Length: 2 hours
Difficulty: Easy
This weekend’s tutorial is from one of my favourite resources for learning web development, FreeCodeCamp. This weekend’s tutorial was written by Reed Barger !
https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/build-portfolio-website-react/
What you’ll learn:
Building a UI with React.js
How to add Tailwind CSS to your project
Deployment to Netlify 🚀
3 creative projects of the week:
1. Pokémon or Big Data?
Built with React, Bootstrap, Live-Server
Do you know the difference between Horsea and Seahorse? What about Flink and Spoink?
Every day new technologies are created and need creative names to stand out, a maker named Pixelastic shows off how hilarious these tech names have become by comparing them to Pokémon.
FYI: Spoink is also a Pokémon and Flink is a batch and stream processing system. Very confusing, I know.
Check out the Github repository here. Follow Pixelastic on Twitter.
2. The Deep Sea
A beautifully smooth visualization of what’s lurking below by maker @nealagarwal. I don’t recommend holding your breath while trying to scroll to the bottom, it’s a lot deeper than you’d expect!
3. Fireworks - CodePen
CSS, JavaScript
Depending on where you live, fireworks are a big part of bringing in the new year. Check out this codepen of fireworks made with CSS and Javascript!
That’s all folks!
I hope you enjoyed this weekend’s edition of Weekend Web Dev!
I also hope these three projects give you inspiration for your future projects, portfolio, or just something cool to play around with for a bit.
Share your tutorial progress with me on Twitter! I’d love to see what you’re building.
